ANALYSIS OF FRONT COVER 2...

- The use of the colour white and red is used throughout the front cover layout which refers back to the brand identity of the logo and it being these colours. This makes the magazine stand out more to the target audience. These colours are all bold and attention seeking as well which would also draw the eye.

-The main band on the front page are all making direct mode of address with the reader, which could suggest that they are demanding attention from not only the reader but the media as well. However, the body language of the woman in this frame suggests that perhaps she isn’t that bothered about being on the front of a mainstream music magazine. The way that she has tilted her glasses down slightly suggests to the reader that perhaps she is ‘above’ them and considers herself superior. This may intrigue the reader and make them want to turn the page.

-The fact that they have highlighted the text ‘ sex, skins and’ in red shows that they are deliberately drawing attention to it, because they are aware that it is something that typically, their target audience may have interest in. The colour red also connotates danger and an urgency to read it.

-The direct eye contact being given to the reader could also give away an element of the band’s personality in being confident with themselves and what they are doing in the music industry.

-The white background behind the 3 main music artists suggests that perhaps they have not found their place in the music industry yet, which again would make the reader more curious about them. The white could also connotate superiority over other bands.

-Language is used on the front cover that would entice the reader in to read more such as rhetorical questions in the cover lines like ‘ Blur reunion?’. Unanswered questions like these would draw the reader in.

-The normal conventions for a music magazine are included such as the main headline, bar code and the magazine’s website. This is again a way of appealing to the young target audience who are likely to be using the internet so will be able to gain access to the website.
