Analysis of front cover 1.

I am now beginning to research already existing msuci magazines, analysing their front covers, double page spreads (DPS) and content pages. In my analysis I have been looking at all the codes and conventions included, colours used, the layout of a page and hopefully after my research I will be able to see similarities and differences between different genres and types of music magazines :)

ANALYSIS 1 OF THE ABOVE FRONT COVER...

-The fact that they have placed the music artist in front of a blank screen and not some kind of real setting background could suggest that she hasn’t found her place back in the music industry yet. The colour grey is also quite a sober colour which could represent how she is presenting the case of returning to the music industry with caution.

-The fact that her facial expression shows her smiling/laughing at someone outside of the shot portrays her as being popular wh others. This makes the reader look more favourably on her and perhaps would make them want to read more about her. Also, the artist is paying more attention to other people instead of concentrating on the photo shoot. This could suggest that she is an easy going person, which again would make the reader look more positively on her.

-The overall colour scheme of this using mainly white’s, greys, yellows and blues could all represent a positive atmosphere. The white could be trying to hint at the music artist’s innocence, with the yellow connotating the sun and a warm atmosphere which could be emitted from this music artist’s personality. The music artist’s name is also in white which emphasises the fact further that the artist is pure and innocent. Instead of re-vamping the artist, they have toned it down to show the natural, more appealing side of her.

-The female music artist’s body language is alluring and appealing to the male audience, with her hands tugging slightly at her jeans slightly and her shirt rolled up to expose skin. This would attract the male audience. Her costume of the casual jeans and shirt also make it easier for the target audience to relate to her, making the relationship between the reader and music artist seem closer. Her facial expression also makes her seem more friendly, giving her and the magazine cover a positive and welcoming tone to the reader.
