There are more images than text included on this double page spread. This will immediately draw the reader in just because typically, a page looks more appealing if there is less text. The headline/ quote is bold and attention seeking as well which draws the reader in more. The double page spread is also from the NME magazine and you can see that the brand identity of the magazine is consistent as it can be seen here as well with the use of red, black and white.
The body language, hair, makeup and body language of the female music artist is also quite masculine with the short hair and tartan shirt. The body language is not especially ‘lady like’ and suggests that she is going against conventions. This shows a rebellious nature that the reader would be intrigued in. The side on direct eye contact also emphasises this kind of outgoing, curious nature that the reader would like.
The white background on the double page spread also suggests that she has been isolated from the media or that the media has been attacking her and she’s taken herself away from it. The white also puts her in a positive light as white connotates purity and innocence.
The text is arranged in columns so that it is easier to read and also begins with a very large bold letter which draws the reader’s attention. This is so the text doesn’t get ignored because of the bold head line and large main image. The pull quote above the columns also has the music artist’s name highlighted in red so the reader notices it.
